2010 LEXUS LS 600HFor 2010, the Lexus LS 600h L gets a mild styling refresh (new grille, bumpers and taillights) and updated electronics, including iPod connectivity and streaming Bluetooth audio. A couple of formerly optional features become standard this year, including the Cold Weather package and the Advanced Parking Guidance System. Also standard are the new Safety Connect and Lexus Enform telematics services. Finally, Lexus has repackaged the hybrid battery pack to free up a couple of extra cubic feet of trunk space. OPTIONSAs for the LS 600h L, it's distinguished from the nonhybrid cars by a different grille and blue-tinted taillights-there's little, really, to set it apart from less-expensive versions, especially from a distance. Edmunds comments the hybrid "looks identical to the [Lexus] LS 460 L," while Kelley Blue Book notes that it gets "several special touches, [such as] blue accents on headlamps, taillamps [and] badging." For the new year, the LS 460 short- and long-wheelbase models get a revised grille, bumper, and headlamps; in back, there are revised taillamps and new exhaust diffusers. A new LS 460 Sport wears an aero body kit that's available without the Sport's suspension and handling upgrades. As if all that were not enough, Lexus offers a couple of options packages to further pamper occupants. The Premium Package II includes ventilated and reclining rear power seats (with a massage feature for the left seat), rear-seat side airbags, four-zone climate control and a rear-seat entertainment system, a center console with a cooler box and power rear door shades. The executive-class Seating Package II adds a power recliner with leg rest and massage feature for the right rear seat, a fixed rear center console that eliminates the fifth seating position, a rear-seat wood table, infrared temperature sensors that adjust the climate control for the rear passengers and special 18-inch, nine-spoke wheels. The few major stand-alone options are an active suspension stabilizer bar system and adaptive cruise control with a pre-collision safety system. SUMMARYThe 2010 Lexus LS 600h L is the epitome of quiet comfort. Accelerating from a stop is eerily silent, with initial power derived solely from the electric motors. The supple suspension easily absorbs any road imperfections, while the sound insulation isolates all occupants from the noise of the less civilized world outside. Steering is precise but lacks feedback -- but then again, most LS drivers have very little interest in a sporty feel. For those who are looking for more performance, we suggest almost any of the German competitors. As good as the LS 600h L is, it is hard to recommend it over the vastly less expensive yet mostly similar LS 460 L.

2010 LEXUS GS 450H REVIEWThe 2010 Lexus GS Hybrid ranks 3 out of 13 Luxury Large Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 57 published reviews and test drives of the Lexus GS Hybrid, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. Lexus calls the GS 450h a no compromises hybrid, and its easy to understand why. It offers the power of a V8 with the fuel-efficiency of a V6, and the kind of opulent cabin that Lexus is known for. It is a tight fit for taller drivers, however, and still trails the best sport sedans in handling. OPTIONSThe GS 450 Hybrid comes in only one trim level. Its equipment list is close to comprehensive, but a handful of upgrades are offered. For 2010, the GS hybrid gets a slightly modified grille, standard 18-inch wheels and a new power rear sunshade. The GS packs a lot of amenities into a very reliable 4-door sedan starting with a powerful engine. No GS has an output under 300 hp, which adds a strong performance punch to the sedan. Safety tech includes Lexus's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system, which coordinates a slew of sensors to keep the car headed where the driver intends it to go. For fuel misers, the full-hybrid 450h gets 22 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, a better than 10% improvement over its gasoline-only siblings. SUMMARYIn road tests, our editors found the Lexus GS 450h to be remarkably fast and powerful. Zero to 60 mph takes just 5.5 seconds. It runs in all-electric mode up to around 15 mph before the gas engine kicks in. And the transition is seamless -- you don't experience the sudden shudder found in earlier hybrid vehicles. A clever Adaptive Variable Suspension system allows the driver to select between normal and "sport" settings. In "sport" mode, the GS 450h corners well without noticeable body roll. An optional active stabilizer adds even more control to the sedan's already well-balanced handling characteristics.

2010 Land Rover Range Rover ReviewThe 2010 Range Rover is a considerable step forward for what is already regarded as one of the worlds most complete luxury vehicles. New engines provide formidable power, efficiency and customary Range Rover refinement, with new technologies delivering world firsts. Like its legendary predecessors, the 2010 Range Rover is setting the pace once more, says Phil Popham, Land Rover managing director. Improved PerformancePride of place on the 2010 Range Rover goes to the brand new 510PS 5.0-litre supercharged LR-V8 petrol engine. The engine was developed in-house by the Jaguar Land Rover powertrain team, with the requirements of the Range Rover in mind from day one. The LR-V8 engine has been developed to deliver more power and refinement, but not at the expense of fuel consumption and emissions. The LR-V8 improves fuel consumption by 7.3 percent to 19mpg on the EU cycle and CO2 emissions by 7.4 percent to 348g/km, despite substantial increases in both power to 510PS (+29 percent) and torque to 625Nm (+12 percent), compared with its 4.2-litre Supercharged predecessor. The popular diesel derivative continues to be powered by the acclaimed 272PS 3.6-litre TDV8 and also benefits from upgrades to the design and under-the-skin modifications. Updated Infotainment SystemsThere are also a number of other key infotainment upgrades including a new hard-drive navigation system providing faster route calculation, larger area map coverage and improved reliability and a new Portable Audio Interface allowing connectivity to an array of personal audio storage devices such as USB sticks and MP3 players, enabling the various devices functions to be accessed and controlled via the facia-mounted touch-screen system. One of the connectivity ports is a dedicated Apple iPodTM point made exclusively by Land Rover. In summary, the Range Rover is still the consummate luxury 44. Its combination of unrivalled all-terrain performance with the ultimate in comfort and refinement remains a clear industry benchmark, concludes Phil Popham.

2010 BMW 3-Series ReviewThe 2010 BMW 3 Series has long been America's best-selling luxury car, and we see no reason why it won't retain its crown. Automotive journalists and consumers agree that the 3 is the segment leader, which highlights its irresistible appeal to enthusiasts and casual drivers alike. There are worthy rivals, of course, including the powerful Infiniti G37, the striking Cadillac CTS and the Euro-chic Audi A4. But even as the twilight of this model's production run approaches, the 3 Series continues to reign supreme. WalkaroundThe 2010 BMW 3 Series is available in sedan, wagon, coupe and hardtop-convertible body styles. The base model for all styles is the rear-wheel-drive 328i, while the coupe, sedan and wagon also come in all-wheel-drive 328i xDrive guise. All but the wagon are available as the rear-drive 335i, while the sedan and coupe can be had in 335i xDrive form. The range-topping sedan model is the diesel-powered 335d. The Premium package adds leather upholstery (heat-reflective in the convertible), auto-dimming mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, BMW Assist telematics and, on 328i models, a sunroof and power seats with driver memory. The Sport package specifies a firmer suspension on convertibles, sedans and wagons (the coupe already has this as standard) and all get larger wheels, sport seats and steering wheel, and special "Shadowline" exterior trim. The Climate package adds heated front seats and steering wheel, retractable headlight washers and fold-down rear seats (though the latter are unavailable in the convertible). Many of these items can be had as stand-alone options. Among the la carte options are xenon headlights and a sunroof (328i only), automatic high beams, a hard-drive-based navigation system with the iDrive controller, keyless ignition/entry, active cruise control, front and rear parking assist, an active steering system (335i only), paddle shifters for the optional automatic transmission, rear window shades, satellite radio, an iPod adapter and a Logic 7 surround-sound audio system. SummaryDriving is what the 2010 BMW 3 Series does best. The 328i's naturally aspirated inline-6 is otherworldly in its smoothness from idle to redline, and it has enough power to suit most tastes. Those in search of something more will be well-served by the twin- turbo 335i, which maintains the 328i's refinement while adding a huge wallop of torque that's always on tap. The 335d is perhaps the biggest hoot of them all, serving up face-flattening torque off the line and a uniquely muscular soundtrack while using the least fuel of the bunch.
